The death has occurred of Jose A. Perez, a 21-year-old from Shorewood, Illinois, who tragically lost his life in a highway crash on Interstate 55.
The incident occurred on April 26, 2026, shortly after 5 a.m., in the southbound lanes of I-55 near milepost 254.5 close to Black Road. Authorities confirmed the collision involved three vehicles.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene and pronounced Jose A. Perez dead. A 20-year-old woman was also injured in the crash and transported to a local hospital for treatment.
The crash led to a temporary closure of all southbound lanes as investigators and cleanup crews worked at the scene. Traffic was later restored after several hours.
The Will County Coroner’s Office has scheduled an autopsy, and Illinois State Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.
